Fireworks Cake
Prep Time: 1.5 Hours
Yields: 24 servings
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all purpose flour
1 ¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ teaspoon vinegar
1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
1 ¾ cup sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ teaspoon cocoa powder
1 tube Betty Crocker® Red Gel Food Color
1 tub white frosting
1 pouch Cake Mate Blue Glitter Icing
1 pouch Cake Mate Red Glitter Icing
1 bottle Betty Crocker® Star Decors
Betty Crocker Decorating Tips
Instructions:
1 – Preheat oven to 350°F.
2 – Spray a 9x13 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
3 – Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
4 – In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and baking soda then stir in vinegar.
5 – Cream the butter and sugar using a stand or handheld mixer.
6 – Add half of the flour mixture to the butter and sugar. Mix batter for 30 seconds then add half of the egg mixture. Beat for another 30 seconds before repeating with additional flour and egg mixtures.
7 – Beat in the Red Gel Food Color.
8 – Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 23-27 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
9 – Allow cake to cool for 15 minutes, then invert onto cooling rack or plate.
10 – Let cake cool completely before frosting with white frosting.
11 – Cut cake into individual slices and decorate each slice by using the writing decorating tip with the Red and Blue Glitter Icings and placing Decors as desired.
